New Total Recall Trailer

Written by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium) and Mark Bomback (Unstoppable), the Len Wiseman (Underworld) directed Total Recall reboot reuses the basic premise of one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made (the 1990 Paul Verhoeven directed, Arnold Schwarzenegger starring, Total Recall), but switches it up for a new generation, as seen in the newly released trailer, which is now available to view below.

Foregoing the iconic trip to Mars, and the alien/mutant elements that went with it, Len’s version finds Douglas Quaid (this time played by Minority Report’s Colin Farrell) feeling a bit mellow about living in futuristic New Shanghai with his wife Lori (Underworld’s Kate Beckinsale), and deciding a trip to Rekall; a company that implants memories into customer’s minds (giving them the perfect getaway without the hassle of packing); before everything goes pear-shaped, and he ends up on the run from everyone and everything he knows.

While the new Total Recall movie will once again find Quaid being hunted by his friends and family, discovering that he may in fact be a real-life secret agent, or still sitting in the chair and acting out the whole film in his brain (thanks to a complicated delusion), it stays put on Earth this time around, and involves a potential war between two superpowers (rather than aliens), but involves it’s fair share of nods to the original movie (including not only re-using an iconic line, but indulging the fans with a three-breasted woman), and will clearly be packed full of action, special effects, and an A-list cast (which also includes the likes of Bill Nighy, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, and Ethan Hawke), and is due to be released on August 3rd in the US, but unfortunately wont be making its UK release date until August 29th.

Fans looking to fill the gap, and relive the original, in the meantime will also get their chance, as Paul Verhoeven’s classic is returning to cinemas this July, ahead of the Total Recall Blu-ray release (coming via a Triple Play edition, and a Triple Play Steelbook edition) on July 16th (both available to order directly from the links below).
