Orlando Bloom Officially Joins The Hobbit

While everyone already assumed it was as good a factual certainty, director Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings) has just confirmed that Orlando Bloom will be reprising the role of the wood Elf Legolas in the upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit; which is now filming in New Zealand.

It’s not clear exactly how Legolas will be worked into the story, as he wasn’t featured anywhere in JRR Tolkien’s book; but Jackson’s obviously taking a few liberties with the story, as he’s already planning to include both Galadriel (Cate Blanchett, Hanna) and Frodo (Elijah Wood, Flipper), and could easily slot Legolas in when Bilbo (the titular hobbit, who’s due to be played by The Office’s Martin Freeman) and co. enter his homeland of Mirkwood.

Yet however it works out, Jackson seems pleased by the announcement stating that he’s “thrilled to be working with Orlando again”, and obviously thinks capturing the immortal look of the elven people shouldn’t be an issue, as “I look older, and he doesn’t; that’s why he makes such a wonderful elf.”
