Postman Pat Movie On The Way

One of the best loved characters of British children’s TV; Postman Pat; celebrated his 30th birthday last Friday (Sept 16th), and did so with the announcement that he’ll soon be making his big screen debut in Postman Pat: The Movie – You Know You’re the One.

Pat’s latest outing will not utilize the traditional stop motion animation of the TV series, or take the route of becoming a live-action movie, but will instead make its way onto the big screen via CG animation (in 3D), with an impressive voice cast led by Stephen Mangan (Green Wing) portraying the titular postman.

Rupert Grint (Harry Potter), Jim Broadbent (Bridget Jones), and David Tennant (Fright Night) will also lend their voices to the cast (in roles that haven’t yet been disclosed), and join Pat in the latest adventure which sees Pat leaving his sleepy town of Greendale in order to enter a TV talent show, and possibly leaving for good; as the new movie lures the postman away with the temptations of money, status, and a shiny new suit, and asks what happens when kindness meets selfishness? when local fame meets global notoriety? and when Pat falls for the age old temptation of the grass being greener?

Postman Pat, and his black and white cat (Jess), have been idolized by generations of youngsters for the past 30 years, and are clearly loved by the cast; who described him as “an iconic British hero” (Mangan), “one of ‘those’ British symbols” (Grint), and a truly “iconic figure” (Broadbent); and will be entering production on his first movie later this month, in order to meet his big screen debut in the spring of 2013; where many Pat-purists hope he will be seen in more of a traditional role, and not as the helicopter-flying Special Delivery Service operative he morphed into with his latest TV series.
