Rambo V Rumours Resurface

Rambo, Sylvester StalloneWhile it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about a potential fifth instalment in the Rambo franchise (there was a lot of talk about producing another sequel after the success of 2008’s Rambo, but things eventually quietened down and Stallone settled into making Expendables movies), it appears as if it’s time for those rumours to start doing the rounds again; as Splendid Film recently announced they have picked up Rambo V.

“With Rambo V, Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time he goes up against a Mexican cartel. Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of No Country For Old Men. Like the last film, Rambo V is produced by Avi Lerner (The Expendables 1-3).”

The above was translated by Coming Soon, from Splendid Film, and floats an idea that’s actually been talked about before (Rambo taking on the cartel’s), although there are plenty of other ideas that also floated about last time the rumours began (including everything from John Rambo rescuing a kidnapped girl – possibly a daughter – to taking on a Predator-like alien), and it’s rather difficult to see Rambo moving to become anything like No Country For Old Men.

For now, with no official word, and Stallone himself (who’s usually quick to confirm such things) having offered no comment so far, it’d be wise to take this ‘announcement’ with a lorry-load of salt. Though it does open up the question action fans will be dying to know… what will Sylvester Stallone do after The Expendables ends?

The Expendables 3 is due to be released on August 14th in the UK, and on August 15th in the US.
