Joining the likes of lead actor Joel Kinnaman (Safe House) and the recently cast Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), The Avengers‘ star Samuel L Jackson has recently seen his name added to the cast list of MGM’s increasingly promising sounding Robocop remake.

Remade from the classic Paul Verhoeven movie of the same name (which starred Peter Weller in the title role), the new Robocop is due to be directed by Jose Padhila (Elite Squad), and will place Jackson as a “charismatic TV mogul” in a futuristic Detroit which sees dead cop Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) resurrected as a cyborg police officer (by Gary Oldman no less), and will involve a re-imagining of the iconic suit, when filming gets underway this September, in Toronto, ahead of a summer 2013 release date.
