Scarface Blu-ray Release Date & Trailer

Hailed as a truly brilliant movie, and a real cult classic, that has become the stand-out piece of so many people’s DVD collections (as seen by watching just about any episode of MTV’s Cribs), Brian De Palma’s 1983 crime/drama Scarface is assured to begin topping the home release charts again soon, as Universal recently announced the date for its Blu-ray debut.

Lambasted by many audiences and critics alike when it was originally released, the movie earned De Palma (The Untouchables) a Razzie nomination for worst director, but has since gone on to have a profound influence on not only following filmmakers, but American gang culture as a whole, and after many years has now become widely recognized as the thrilling crime masterpiece it always was.

Starring Al Pacino (The Godfather) as the ruthless, intense, and highly ambitious immigrant Tony Montana, the easily-quotable movie will soon come to Blu-ray in a regular edition, a limited edition steelbook, and larger, more expansive, more inclusive, limited edition that includes a whole of of extra goodies.

Most if not all of the previously released DVD extras will be ported over onto the Blu-ray (which of course boasts superb full 1080p picture quality), and joined by a range of new special features which include a documentary on Scarface’s effect of both culture and other filmmakers, a Picture-In-Picture mode, and an onscreen scoreboard that clocks up the number of F-bombs dropped and bullets fired during the movie.

With several different editions being released in the U.K. and U.S., the U.K.’s premier edition comes in a hinged, cigar-style, box containing the steelbook edition of the film (which happens to be a Triple Play edition), an exclusive ‘making of’ booklet, Tony Montana money clip, artcards and more, while the U.S.’s premier edition (of which only 1000 are being produced) will come with both the Blu-ray and a digital copy of the film, the 1932 original, and a hand-painted humidor (for a price tag of $999.99).

The trailer for the Scarface Blu-ray can be seen below, and anyone looking to purchase the new releases can pre-order them now, ahead of the September 5th release date for the U.K., and the September 6th release date for the U.S.
