Sean Bean Joins Devil’s Peak

Best known for his role as the Napoleonic war hero Sharpe, but more recently seen in both The Lord of the Rings, and HBO’s Game of Thrones, Sean Bean will soon be stepping away from swords and castles, as he’s just signed on to appear in the upcoming adaptation of Deon Meyer’s novels, Devil’s Peak.

Published between 2004 and 2011, Meyer’s novels could potentially outline a trilogy of movies, with Sean Bean on for the lead role of detective Benny Griessel; a detective who works for the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in Cape Town, and has an amazing ability for finding murderers, but struggles to deal with his own personal demons (which largely come in the form of family troubles and alcoholism).

The rights to Devil’s Peak are going up for sale at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with a view to begin shooting on location in South Africa this September, and hopefully releasing the first psycho-thriller in the trilogy next year. However, if you’re looking to see Bean on screen before then, he’s also starring in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D (the sequel to Silent Hill), which is due to be released on October 26th in the UK.
