Silent Hill Sequel Signs Director

The ever popular video-game series Silent Hill; which revolves around a town that often leads people into an alternate dimension, and finds them scrapping with all sorts of demented fire victims, walking innuendos, and stab-happy nurses with skimpy outfits, and severe nervous twitches; received its first film outing back in 2006, and will soon be getting a second; titled Silent Hill: Revelations.

Revelations won’t be attempting to answer any of the questions left by the first movie; instead choosing to leave the fate of Rose (Radha Mitchell, Surrogates), Alessa (Joedelle Ferland, Case 39), and Chris (Sean Bean, Black Death), to the imaginations of the fans; by beginning anew, and telling the unrelated tale of a teenage girl who also becomes inexplicably drawn to the foggy alternate reality of Silent Hill.

While few plot details have been released, it is known that the teenage girl in question will be Heather Mason; the teenager from the third game, who begins to have nightmares on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, and soon follows those dreams to the eerie town, in hopes of uncovering the mystery behind her father’s disappearance.

It’s unknown just how closely the film’s plot will stick to that of the game (as the first movie took its fair share of liberties with the story, and mythology), or if Michael J. Bassett; the Solomon Kane director who’s recently signed on to direct the sequel; will be attempting to replicate the moody, nightmarish, and highly praised, visuals that Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf) used in the first, or if he will attempt to imbibe Revelations with his own sense of style and atmosphere.

No release date has been given for the Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction) written film, although it appears as if everything is going ahead to a set schedule; as producer Samuel Hadida previously stated that the plan was to begin work on Silent Hill 2 after Resident Evil: Afterlife was completely finished; and that the movie will be eventually be released in 3D.
