Star Trek 2 Casts Robocop’s Peter Weller

Since headlining Robocop back in 1987, Peter Weller has gained a rather large cult following, and much to the delight of his fans will soon be appearing on screen in another huge sci-fi franchise, as he’s just been cast in JJ Abrams upcoming Star Trek sequel; Star Trek 2.

Benico Del Toro (Che) was reportedly in talks to play the film’s villain but has now bowed out, so the slot’s wide open for Weller to take his place; although there’s no concrete information on exactly who Weller will be playing at this point (just as it’s still not known if the bad guy in Star Trek 2 will be the infamous Khan, or not).

With JJ Abrams back in the director’s chair, and the returning cast including the likes of Chris Pine, Zachary Qunito, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, and John Cho, Star Trek 2 will begin filming next month, and is due to be released in summer 2013.
