Star Trek 2 Release Date Confirmed

Rebooting a franchise with as many uber fans as the Star Trek series was never going to be any easy task, so with how well received JJ Abrams’ first Star Trek movie was, it came as a surprise to many onlookers when doubts arose about who would be stepping up to direct its sequel, and then seeing its release date being postponed; two problems which have thankfully been resolved, as we now not only have a director, but also a confirmed release date for Star Trek 2.

Despite suggesting he may not step behind the camera a second time, JJ Abrams will be directing Star Trek 2; which currently has Benico Del Toro (Che) in talks to play its major villain, and will see Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, and Anton Yelchin, return as Kirk, Spock, Sulu, Bones, Uhura, Scotty, and Chekov respectively.

So far there’s little word on the plot of Star Trek 2 (which has been written by returning scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci), but we do know that composer Michael Giacchino will be returning to score the new movie, which is likely to be released 3D, and will be hitting cinemas screens in the US (and hopefully the UK) on May 17th 2013.
