Star Wars Confirmed on Blu-ray

Blu-ray releases of the Star Wars saga have now, finally, been officially announced by George Lucas’ Head of Fan Relations; Steve Sansweet; who actually said last year that the team were considering releasing the movies, and said that they would be coming out in what he called the “ultimate” box-set.

More recently, he has dropped the “ultimate” tag, but has confirmed that people have been actively working on the Blu-rays, and although he couldn’t be coerced into providing a firm and official release date, it has been reported that the film’s should be hitting shop shelves in October 2011.

Sansweet has dropped the “ultimate” tag, because he thinks that there might still be hidden gems that get mysteriously “found” between the time this set gets released, and the time the next one comes out, as his people have been working for ‘a couple of years’ and still keep “finding” stuff. Nevertheless, Steve reckons that the upcoming release will be a ‘very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray, with lots of extra material.’

The news, even though it isn’t all that surprising, should please fans, who now have it definitely confirmed by a man in the know, and actually have something new to look forward to; as Mr. Sansweet has stated that they have been ‘finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before’, and that ‘there are some real treasures’ that are going to be included.
