In a piece of casting news almost as surprising as Elton John joining the cast of Kingsman, The Office, Extras, and Hello Ladies co-creator/star Stephen Merchant has just joined the cast of the upcoming Wolverine film.

There’s no word on exactly who Merchant will be playing in the film which is being helmed by returning director James Mangold, and is set to be the last outing for Hugh Jackman as the titular X-Men mutant Wolverine/Logan; a suggestion which makes sense as it’s rumoured to follow a plot line following an old-man Logan tale.

Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Charles Xavier/Professor X, alongside a recently cast Richard E. Grant (the Withnail and I star who’s set to play a mad scientist), and Boyd Holbrook (the Gone Girl star who’s playing Logan’s main nemesis) when the still untitled Wolverine movie is released on March 2nd next year.
