While Steven Seagal may not have the agility, or the action-hero status, he once held, there’s no denying that’s he’s still got a certain amount of pull for the right audience; as not only do classics like Under Siege still prove popular, but Steve has gone on to have a successful music career, a number of continuing business adventures (including licensing his own aftershave, and drink), and is a successful Reserve Deputy Chief working out of the Sheriff’s Office in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana (the basis of the reality show Steven Seagal Lawman); and seen as how he’s recently made a big-screen comeback by playing the bad-guy in Machete, it’s surprising that no U.S. network has yet optioned his newest TV project.
Seagal’s latest endeavor is the, as yet un-optioned, cop-drama; True Justice (formerly known as Southern Justice); which sees Steve playing the role of the tough yet kind cop Elijah Kane, who leads a team of undercover cops that “carry out a unique and often brutal style of law enforcement.”
It looks like the producers have tried a few different methods of getting the show picked up (including changing the show’s name), and have now resorted to making a hip-hop trailer for the series (which can be seen below); which despite its poor editing, and the mediocre acting talent it displays, holds some real promise.
And while there’s still no word as to which network, if any, will decide to air the show, there’s still good news for Steve’s fans in the U.S.; as they can now continue watching the new series of Lawman (since it was renewed by A&E earlier this year, after the legal case that led to the show’s cancellation was dropped); but even better news for U.K. fans, who can not only look forward to more episodes of Lawman, but will get to see Steve dispensing some True Justice, when the show airs on Five USA next year.
