We’ve seen the first image, learned who will be starring as the infamous rappers which made up the N.W.A. and now have the first Straight Outta Compton official trailer available to view below. As you’d expect it’s definitely Red Band (explicit lyrics galore), and comes with a glorious preface from original Niggaz With Attitudez’ members Ice Cube, and Dr Dre.
Directed by F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen), Straight Outta Compton charts the rise of the legendary, and still controversial, rap group (comprising of Cube, Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and Eazy-E – not necessarily in that order) from their earnest beginnings to the top of the music industry, and their eventual infighting and split.
With Paul Giamatti (Ironclad) picking up the part of manager Jerry Heller, O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Cube’s son) playing the part of his father in the movie, and other roles being picked up by relative unknowns Corey Hawkins (Dre), Neil Brown Jr. (Yella), Aldis Hodge (Ren), Jason Mitchell (Eazy), and Keith Stanford (as Snoop Dogg), the N.W.A. movie Straight Outta Compton is due to be released on August 14th in both the US and UK.
