Ted Scores Universal’s Biggest Opening in 5 Years

While we all knew the first movie directed by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane would be big, many onlookers will be surprised to learn that the new comedy Ted has not only taken an impressive £9.32M in its opening weekend, but given Universal Pictures its biggest opening in five years.

With its titular character being a binge-drinking, drug-taking, sex-obsessed, talking teddy bear who’s best friends with Mark Wahlberg (Contraband), and a kind-of third-wheel to Wahlberg’s relationship with Mila Kunis (Friends With Benefits), Ted’s an undeniably funny film (just read our review to find out how funny it really is), comes loaded with quips, gags, and hilarious one-liners, and has now gained a bigger opening than Mamma Mia.

Ted has also secured the second biggest opening of all time for a Universal movie (only losing out to Bridget Jones 2), and the 5th biggest comedy opening ever (after The Inbetweeners, Bridget Jones 2, The Hangover 2, and Hancock), and has proved it’s not only for Family Guy fans, but a great comedy for everyone.
