Terminator Genisys Trailer and Official Poster

Terminator Genisys PosterWhile many a fan felt underwhelmed at the prospect of revisiting the The Terminator franchise, even with the news of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return, the new trailer for the upcoming fifth film in the series has done its best to abate fans’ reservations, and blast onto the screen with an original plot, and its fair share of action; as seen in the official trailer below.

Also released last night, we now have a brand new poster for Terminator Genisys (on the right), and our first true look at the plot, and cast, of the new film in action; which sees Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) picking up the role of John Connor in the future war, and sending his father Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney, Divergent) back in time to save his mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones) from the machine sent back in time to kill her before she can conceive John.

Essentially that shows us the beginning of the original Terminator movie, but what’s different here is when Kyle ends up back in 1984 the timeline has changed; Sarah isn’t the helpless waitress we knew back in 1984 but a true fighter who’s been raised by an ageing T-800 (the Terminator played by Arnie), and is now the only help of saving Reese as a new T-1000 (not played by Robert Patrick this time) is threatening him.

Whilst it does appear to simply re-visit the original movies in order to earn some easy goodwill, there’s both enough nods to the first two movies, a glimpse of the future-war we’ve wanted to see since the mid-80s, and a plot which is both original and interesting enough to ensure Terminator Genisys has potential and could be worth seeing when it’s released on July 1st in the US, before making its official UK release date on July 3rd 2015.
