Despite being wrought with production problems, and the inevitable delays that come from them, news that the remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow had found a new director in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) meant that work on the film could once again get underway, and continues to pick up speed; as it may have finally pinned down a leading man in Bradley Cooper.
Cooper (The Hangover star who was most recently seen in Limitless; a movie from the same studio developing the remake of The Crow) is reported to be in early talks to star as Eric Draven; the character created by graphic novelist James O’Barr, and famously portrayed by Brandon Lee; a man who witnesses his fiancee get raped and brutally murdered, before he is beaten to death himself, and comes back to life one year later (guided by a supernatural crow) to exact his bloody revenge on his attackers.
Having already met with Fresnadillo in Spain; where the two reportedly “hit it off, and shared a vision for the character and the film”; it seems likely likely that Cooper will board the project (especially as he’s reported to be very “keen” on the idea), which is scheduled to enter production later this year, for a 2013 release.
