The Guard Poster and Trailer

With a host of film festival notations under its belt (making the official selection list in Berlin, Sundance, Los Angeles, and Tribeca), The Guard is an upcoming black comedy following an Irish cop who’s not only thrown out the rule book, but grown tired as a result of his sleepy town lacking any real action or hardcore crime.

But when a body turns up, and FBI Agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle, Ocean’s 11) arrives in town to investigate, Sergeant Gerry Boyle’s (Brendan Gleeson, In Bruges) unorthodox approach doesn’t go down to well; particularly as Everett is black, and racism, well for Boyle that’s “part of the culture.”

Aiming to provide a new spin on the buddy-cop dynamic, and touch down with a fair few laughs, The Guard; which is the debut feature for writer/director John Michael McDonagh; is due to be released in the US on July 29th, before making its UK release date on August 19th (putting it up against the stiff competition of Cowboys & Aliens, which opens on the same day in both territories).
