The Hangover Part III Already in Development

Despite only being released yesterday, it’s clear that The Hangover Part II; the sequel to the 2009 comedy smash hit about a group of guys having an unforgettably wild night (which ironically none of them can remember) in Las Vegas and losing the groom on the eve of his wedding; is going to be another huge comedy hit; meaning it should come as no great surprise that a sequel is already in the works.

Writer/director Todd Phillips (Due Date) has already spoken about the possibility of producing a third Hangover movie; and one that will deviate heavily from the formula followed so closely by the first movie and its newly released sequel; but co-writer Craig Marzin (Scary Movie 4) recently confirmed that (in an interview with MovieWeb) when he stated:

“I cannot imagine a worse hanover than the one they experience in Bangkok. That’s it. No More. The third one really has to be about something that gets them off this cycle. Every time these three guys get together, something terrible happens. The third one is about saving them from a life of agony.”

Continuing to say that the decision is not due to outside pressure, but making a movie that “makes sense for the characters”, as The Hangover “isn’t really about the plot, but about these guys going through some sort of horrendous growth experience”, Craig insisted that just as “The Hangover Part II goes to another level in terms of how dark and insane it gets, The Hangover Part III will go to another level for the guys.”

Aside from that Marzin kept mostly quiet about plot specifics; as he rightfully believes “things are just funnier when you don’t know what’s coming”; but did say that’s it’s highly unlikely to revolve around Alan’s wedding (as many fans suspect a next movie would; being as all other members of the wolfpack are now married); “I don’t think Alan would ever get married.”

Still whatever the plot focusses on, it will undoubtedly be welcome news to fans of the series that The Hangover Part III; the final part of a planned trilogy (as Marzin says “we’re not going to do The Hangover 20”); is not only in development, but will be a film Craig calls “The Hangover to end all Hangovers.”

After receiving the best ever midnight opening for an R-rated movie, The Hangover Part II is in both UK and US cinemas now, and you can find our review of the film here, the official trailer here, or all the latest Hangover Part II news here.
