Coming with a fair resemblance to one of the original Lord of the Rings posters, the newly released poster for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (the first film in Peter Jackson’s upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel trilogy) was recently released online, and can now be seen on the right, along with a number of new stills from the film, which can be found below.
Starring Martin Freeman (The Pirates!) as Bilbo Baggins (the titular halfling), An Unexpected Journey will see the Hobbit setting out from his cozy hobbit-hole with a band of dwarves and a wizard (Ian McKellen’s Gandalf) to the Lonely Mountain in search of treasure, and setting the scene for everything to come; including confrontations with trolls, a dragon, and Gollum (Andy Serkis).
Alongside familiar faces Elijah Wood (Frodo), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Christopher Lee (Saurman), Hugo Weaving (Elrond), and Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey co-stars Richard Armitage (Strike Back), Benedict Cumberbatch (War Horse), Evangeline Lilly (Real Steel), Luke Evans (Immortals), Lee Pace (A Single Man), and Billy Connolly (Brave), and is due to be released on December 14th in both the US and UK.
The following installments, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The And Back Again, will then be released on December 13th 2013, and July 18th 2014, respectively.
