The Toys Are Back in Town

Whilst we all knew that Toy Story 3 was the end to what is most likely Pixar’s greatest ever creation; Toy Story; and brought the toys’ story to an impressively fitting, emotional, and cinematic conclusion; it appears as though we haven’t seen last of Woody, Buzz, Hamm, Rex, and the rest of the gang, as the Toys are soon to be appearing on cinema screens once again.

But even though the toys are coming back to the big screen, Pixar are sticking to their promise that the Toy Story movies have ended, and are merely bringing every child’s favourite rabble of toys back in a short film; intended to be played in front of Pixar’s upcoming Cars 2.

Dubbed ‘Hawaiian Vacation’, the new short takes place largely inside a toy box; as Barbie and Ken manage to foul up their plans to stow away on a tropical excursion, and Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the toys re-create a romantic getaway for them inside their toy box; complete with costumes, Hawaiian set decorations, and a full holiday atmosphere.

Lifted director Gary Rydstrom (the man responsible for the short) has said that “when it’s time for a little playacting they [the toys]’re pretty good at it”, and have a “pretty good imagination”; implying that we’ll be in for a bit of fun when Cars 2 (and thus the Toy Story short) are released in the U.K. on July 22nd (after hitting their U.S. release date on June 24th).
