Thor 2 Gets Monster Director

Since Thor was released earlier this year, to fairly positive reactions, fans have been wondering who would be turning up to direct the sequel (as Kenneth Branagh; director of the first movie; stated early on that he would not be returning), and it appears as though Marvel Studios have now made their choice, and settled on Patty Jenkins.

Jenkins is a surprise choice to direct Thor 2; as not only are women very rarely sought after to direct superhero movies, but she’s best known for directing, the Charlize Theron starring, Monster (which won its lead actress an Oscar, but is far more heavy hitting than the Summer blockbuster/popcorn scene calls for); yet Deadline are reporting that Marvel look “pretty serious” about their choice, and are expected to make an official announcement soon.

Chris Hemsworth will be returning to play the Hammer-throwing Norse God/superhero Thor, in Thor 2; which is being written by Thor co-writer Don Payne, and is due to be released on July 26th 2013; although anyone wishing to see Hemsworth back in action as Thor before then can catch him in The Avengers next year.
