Tim Burton Directing Pinocchio?

Fairytale re-imaginings are all the rage at the minute; with recent movies such as Red Riding Hood, and Sleeping Beauty, preceding the upcoming Snow White and The Huntsman, and Jack the Giant Killer; and now Warner Bros. are looking to get in on the act, by hiring Alice in Wonderland director Tim Burton to craft a new take on the fairytale classic Pinocchio.

Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) is writing the script for the new movie, which will place the puppet carver Geppetto at the heart of the film; seeing him looking to reunite with his wooden puppet Pinocchio (after he came to life and went off on his famed adventures); and could place Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr. as the aging puppet carver.

Deals are still far from locked at this point, and Burton and Downey’s schedules are always extremely busy; Burton’s currently finishing off Warner’s Dark Shadows adaptation, and considering a number of other projects to follow, while Downey will soon have to begin his Avengers publicity tour, and then jump into Iron Man 3; so while a Burton/Downey Pinnochio could happen, it’s still some ways off becoming a reality, and may lag behind Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming animated version, and Shawn Levy’s Geppetto-based prequel.
