Tim Burton To Make Next Addams Family Film

Tim Burton, who’s still flying high on the success of his latest 3D film Alice in Wonderland (which has topped the UK Box Office for the last couple of weeks), reportedly has a new 3D project on the horizon; The Addams Family.

Although a well known classic, Burton’s Addams Family will be decidedly different from previous incarnations of the kooky family, steering clear of the camp 60’s TV show, the upcoming stage musical, and Barry Sonnenfeld’s early 90’s movies (which actually had a rather Burton like look to them), and reverting back to a vision much more true to Charles Addams original cartoon creations.

And while the idea of merging Tim Burton with Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, and the rest of the gang, may sound like a creepily gothic match made in heaven, there are a couple of points worth noting that may disappoint some people; firstly the fact that it’ll be a long while before it’s released, as not only has the studio still not hired a writer, but Burton has several upcoming projects due out beforehand (including Frankenweenie, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), and secondly, instead of making a live-action feature, this Addams Family will be appearing in stop-motion animation.

However it’s not like Tim is any stranger to the world of animation; with his upcoming Frankenweenie due to be released next year, producer credits for 9, and having directed The Corpse Bride, and provided the story (and the entire look) for The Nightmare Before Christmas; so with his experience and unique visual outlook, the next generation of Addams’ should be in fairly capable hands.
