Transformers 3D to Feature Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

After the Jennifer’s Body star, Megan Fox, left, or was fired from (depending on which side of the story you believe), Transformers 3, as a result of her disagreements with the series director; Michael Bay (Bad Boys); people have been wondering who would replace her as the female lead, and love interest of Shia LaBeouf’s (Disturbia) character Sam Witwicky, in the franchise; and that question has now received a definite answer, in the form of Victoria’s Secret model, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Rosie surprisingly managed to snag the part, despite competition from Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia), Zoe Saldana (Avatar), Amber Heard (The Stepfather), and Hayden Panetierre (Heroes), among others, and also despite the fact that the only screen time she’s allotted so far has been a short part in a Victoria’s Secret TV ad (which Michael Bay happened to direct), and that she is only really known for getting her kit off, and dating the British action star Jason Statham (Crank 2).

But the fact that such a coveted role has been landed by someone with next to no acting experience (when there were plenty of perfectly viable, and proven, actresses interested) led many people to wonder exactly how she managed it, and there is a very simple answer; she appealed to Bay’s simpler side; by turning up to her audition in nothing more than some completely see-through lingerie; a not unusual occurrence for Bay, who famously made Megan Fox wash his Ferrari, while he filmed, to land her part in the franchise (and then wondered why they didn’t get on), before conveniently losing the footage (presumably under a pile of tissues).

But despite the unusual casting methods, Huntington-Whiteley is definitely in, and already part way through the L.A. film shoot that will make Transformers a reality, and one that Michael Bay has recently confirmed will be appearing in 3D (although he hasn’t specified whether or not it will be filmed in the format, or converted after the fact, like Clash of the Titans), and touching down in cinemas next summer.

Bay has also let some plot details slip, and as a result we now know that the main bad guy will be Shockwave; the one-eyed (Spock influenced) robot with a gigantic laser cannon for a hand, and conquering the universe (in the name of logic) on the ‘brain’; and that the “dorky comedy” from the last movie (Revenge of the Fallen), will be “basically gone”, as he’s finally willing to accept some of the blame for the way in which the last film ended up; “I’ll take some of the criticism,” but “it was very hard to put the sequel together that quickly after the writers strike.”

The biggest news however comes with Bay saying that the upcoming third movie will complete the trilogy, and the franchise, as “it really ends”; although he did say after both previous movies that he would be moving on to other things, and that Megatron would not make an appearance in the second film, so whatever he says needs to be taken with a handful of salt (especially seen as how it’s unlikely that Paramount will simply let such a lucrative franchise fade away while it still has such money-making potential); even though he does admit that it will be possible to reboot the series down the road, yet is giving fans something to look forward to for now, as he promises “a real killer ending.”
