Tron 3 Gets New Writer

Determined not to repeat the 28 year gap that fell between the release of the original Tron, and last year’s Tron: Legacy, Disney are pressing ahead with the third Tron movie, and have recently hired David DiGilio (who recently sold his post-apocalyptic sci-fi series; Last H.O.P.E.; to Showtime) to write the film’s script.

While the original Tron is hailed in many circles as a true cult classic, and was one of the first movies to extensively use CGI graphics, Tron: Legacy was met with a fairly muted response, yet still astounded viewers technologically (and is easily one of, if not the, best 3D Blu-ray discs now available to buy) and grossed over $400 million; making Tron 3 a likely possibility.

Yet while Legacy’s Box Office results may suggest there’s ample interest for a Tron threequel, Disney will likely be watching the ratings of their upcoming animated Tron TV series; Tron: Uprising; before finally committing to making another extremely pricy movie, and may have to scale back the ideas of Legacy director Joseph Kosinski (who wanted to push the envelope even further technologically next time around), or possibly seek a replacement director, just as they have done with the writing duties; since the original Legacy writers (Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz; who had signed on to brainstorm ideas for the next film) have already moved on to other things.
