Younger audiences my know French filmmaker Luc Besson best for his action movies (such as Taken and Lucy), but back in 1997 Besson released the fantastic sci-fi film The Fifth Element; a grand, high-concept, movie which remains a cult favourite almost twenty years later; and now it looks as if Luc is heading back to his wonderfully visual sci-fi world, as the below Valerian trailer shows.

Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets (to give the film its full title), is based on the French graphic novel series Valérian and Laureline and follows a couple of special operatives (played by Suicide Squad star Cara Delvigne and Chronicle‘s Dane DeHaan) tasked with looking after various human territories throughout the universe; with this specific tale taking them to an intergalactic city, home to seventeen million residents, threatened by some very dark forces.

Clive Owen (Children of Men), John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane), Ethan Hawke (Training Day) and Rihanna will all co-star, when Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets is released next July.
