Wanted 2 Moves Ahead

While it looked as though all hopes of seeing a sequel to Wanted; the comic-book movie starring James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) as a bullet-curving assassin who was trained by Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider) and Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption); had dwindled to near extinction, a sequel seems to once again be moving forward; as Universal have now hired the original scriptwriters to pen a planned Wanted 2.

Jolie hasn’t shown much interest in returning for a sequel, but as Wanted managed to make over $300 million (on a budget of merely $75) seeing Wanted 2 at some point was always kind of inevitable, and it should come as no real shock that both Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have been brought back to write the script; the latter of whom confirmed that he is “excited” to be a part of the project, and that “Wanted 2 is going to take off right after the events that just happened.”

While putting two scribes to work on a script doesn’t mean Wanted 2 has been officially greenlit, it’s obviously good news for fans, who will now just have to wait for the script to be finished, and a director to be found (as it looks like Wanted’s Timur Bekmambetov will not be involved with the sequel), before an official release date (and hopefully some cast members) can finally be confirmed.
