It was recently rumoured, and fans across the globe were hoping against all hope they’d get to see one of the greatest TV shows ever created return to the small screen, but now we officially confirm The X-Files is returning to television, thanks to a newly commissioned limited event series commissioned by original home Fox.

202 episodes, nine seasons, and thirteen years after it finished its original run, Fox has ordered a brand new six-episode run of the Chris Carter created series which saw a pair of FBI agents investigating unexplained, paranormal events, and proved to be not only a global phenomenon (spawning two movies and a spin-off series), but launch the careers of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Both Duchovny and Anderson will be back as Mulder and Scully, and while plot details are being kept under wraps at this point we do know filming is set to begin this summer, and that Carter will be heavily involved, saying “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break… the good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
