Last night, the trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, a J.J. Abrams produced thriller, dropped. The keyword of the movie’s title might give you a few ideas, and you would be half right in thinking so, as there’s some pretty heavy (and justified) speculation that it’s the sequel to 2007’s Cloverfield.
Speaking with Collider back in January, Abrams said “the idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
10 Cloverfield Lane has previously gone under titles The Cellar, and later Valencia. The official synopsis of the film states that a woman wakes up in a basement with a man after having been involved in a car accident. He tells her that the outside world has become uninhabitable after a chemical attack, so he brought her back with him to save her life. It would be easy to assume that the real reason the country (or maybe even the planet) has become uninhabitable is thanks to the consequences of that gigantic monster that invaded New York City in the 2007, although we’ll have just have to wait and see.
Starring will be Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski) and John Gallagher, Jr. (The Newsroom). The script is written by Matthew Stuecken, Josh Campbell and Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), and the movie will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg.
10 Cloverfield Lane will be released in US theatres on March 16, while UK dates are yet to be announced.
