Coming from writer/director J.C. Chandor (the man behind Margin Call, and All Is Lost), A Most Violent Year takes place in New York City, back in 1981, when temperatures nose-dived that winter, and the murder rate shot up as a wave of drugs and crime exploded in the city; as seen in the official trailer below.
Starring Oscar Isaac (Drive) as an immigrant attempting to grow his business, and Jessica Chastain (Lawless) as his wife, A Most Violent Year “is essentially a gangster movie” according to Chandor, and will see Isaac’s immigrant using more heavy-handed tactics to keep his business afloat as time moves on, and will co-star Albert Brooks (Drive), David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), and Alessandro Nivola (Face/Off) when it’s released on December 31st in the US, before making its official UK release date on January 23rd.
