Debuting over at Women And Hollywood, along with an accompanying article and statement regarding the still rampant sexism within the film industry, Adult Life Skills Director Rachel Tunnard has recently shared a hilarious video exploring sexism in Hollywood (available below, following the official Adult Life Skills trailer).

In the video, two thumbs discuss the issue of sexism; one plays a young female filmmaker who dreams of directing the types of films women are usually prevented from making, while the other plays devil’s advocate and slowly erodes the dreams of the first; it’s simple, hilarious, voiced by Tunnard, and hits the nail on the head when it comes to views from within the industry – hardly surprising when you learn Tunnard actually experienced some of the things mentioned in the video.

Written and directed by Rachel Tunnard, Adult Life Skills stars Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch) as a woman who is “approaching 30 and has just moved back to her rural home-town, and into a shed in her mother’s backyard. She spends her time working a menial job at a local boating center and hides in the depths of her imagination, making movies with her thumbs. Irritated by her childish behavior, Anna’s mother insists that she move out of her shed and on with her life. When a troubled young boy starts hanging around, the two form an unlikely bond. Through their strange yet mutually beneficial friendship, Anna slowly begins to confront her perpetual state of arrested development.”

The award-winning film (Adult Life Skills won Tunnard the Nora Ephron prize at Tribeca earlier this year); which Rachel describes as “a story about being lost and finding yourself, making peace with who you are and regaining self-confidence and dignity… it is basically the same themes as ‘Rocky,’ if you think about it. But with a shed. And a cowboy. And no boxing.”; is due to be released on June 24th in the UK.
