Despite overwhelmingly scathing reviews thus far, it appears as if the cinematic take on James Patterson’s criminal profiler Alex Cross could still be heading down the franchise route; with a deal currently being negotiated to have Tyler Perry (Star Trek) reprise his role as the titular Cross for a planned sequel.
As Cross had a fairly low budget (reportedly under $25m) and both Perry and Patterson come with their own built-in audiences, it’s not hard to see why the studio wouldn’t ignore the reviews and hope for a touch of Box Office success when Alex Cross is released, and start to plan for a sequel; which would be based on Patterson’s novel Double Cross, and see the retired profiler practicing private counselling, before becoming targeted by two nefarious types.
There’s no word on whether or not director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) would return to helm the sequel, and any follow-ups development does depend on how Alex Cross performs at the Box Office; having just been released in the US, and making its way to UK cinemas on November 30th.
