Ignoring the multitude of pathetically poor, direct-to-video, sequels and aiming to bring the cast of the original trilogy back for one more raunchy romp, American Reunion will be the fourth official movie in the American Pie series, and has just had one key member added to its cast-list; none other than the band-camp girl herself; Alyson Hannigan.
Now a regular on How I Met Your Mother, Hannigan starred in the original trilogy as Michelle Flaherty; the crude, talkative, band-camp geek who eventually wound up marrying the Pie’s central character Jim in the third movie; and will be re-teaming with her co-stars Jason Biggs (Jim) and Role Models’ Seann William Scott (Steve Stiffler), in the comedy that will focus on the marriage of Jim and Michelle, and how they’re raising their young child.
Universal are also hoping to see the majority of the original cast return; with Eugene Levy (the only member of the cast that has appeared in every American Pie movie; including the DTV sequels; to date) reprising his role a Jim’s dad, Tara Reid (Van Wilder) and Thomas Ian Nicholas (Rookie of the Year) coming back as Vicky and Kevin respectively, and possible returns from Shannon Elizabeth (Scary Movie) as Jim’s first crush Nadia, Chris Owen (October Sky) as the Shermanator, and Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde) as Stiffler’s mom.
Due to be directed by Harold and Kumar co-creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, American Reunion (or American Pie 4 to fans who like their movie names a couple of syllables shorter) is due to be released in the US on January 7th next year, and will presumably make its way to the UK at a similar date; marking the first theatrical release in the franchise since 2003.
