Widely remembered singer-songwriter Janis Joplin (who proved one of the major draws at Woodstock, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995) will soon be the focus of an upcoming biopic placing Amy Adams (Man of Steel) in the lead role; a role Adams has been attached to, and keen to realise, for several years.
Titled Get It While You Can (taking the name from one of Joplin’s most famous songs), the planned biopic is due to be directed by Dallas Buyers Club’s Jean-Marc Vallee, with Buyers’ Craig Borten and Melissa Wallack due to tackle the latest draft of the script.
It’s not yet known exactly what timespan the film will cover, the release date, or even when it will shoot (a distribution deal is expected to be finalised shortly), but there’s clearly a wealth of material to cover for a performer who’s still regarded as one of the greatest singers of all time, opened doors for all female singers who followed, and unfortunately died of a drug overdose aged only 27 (in 1970).
