Easily one of the best films of the year (and one of the few successful movies released this year not based on a comic-book, or featuring giant robots) Rise of the Planet of the Apes is unsurprisingly due to receive a sequel, and has just had it’s main star; Andy Serkis; sign up to reprise his role as head-ape Caesar.
Director Rupert Wyatt is also set to return for the sequel, which doesn’t actually have to rely on any of the film’s human stars returning (so seeing the likes of James Franco, and Frieda Pinto returning isn’t necessarily a given), as with the Apes having risen at the end of the last movie (given the title, and how much everyone knows about the previous Planet of the Apes movies; which are of course set years after the events of Rise of the Apes; that’s not a spoiler), but will see writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver once again scripting Caesar’s next chapter; which, given the success of Rise, Fox will likely be putting on the fast-track.
