Arrested Development Gets New TV Season Before Movie

Fans of the hit US comedy Arrested Development; a show about a formerly wealthy, thoroughly dysfunctional, American family; have been awaiting the release of its long-awaited big screen adaptation since the show ended back in 2006, and now have cause to rejoice, as not only is the Arrested Development finally moving forward, but there are also plans to produce a new season of the show.

Speaking at The New Yorker Festival, Arrested Development creator Mitchell Hurwitz stated that they’re “trying to o a limited-run series into the movie”, with which they’re “basically hoping to do nine or ten episodes” in order to show fans what the series’ central family (the Bluth family) have been up to in the five years since the show has been cencelled.

While it’s not simply as straight forward as getting the green-light and going ahead with the series (due to rights issues and other factors), Mitchell is keen to do another series in order to fill in the characters’ backstories, in order to trim down and refine the screenplay for the movie; which he has been working on for “a long time.”

Arrested Development star Jason Bateman (the Horrible Bosses actor who’s clearly become the show’s biggest success since its cancellation) also confirmed that he is “VERY excited!” to be getting back into the show, by confirming the new season’s length, and a potential shooing schedule, when he Tweeted the following message:

“It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer [2012] for a release in early [20]13. VERY excited!”
