We’ve already seen enough posters, stills, trailers, toy releases, press releases, and promos to almost fill out an entire movie’s runtime, but there’s no denying that The Avengers’ Super Bowl TV spot (now available to view below) manages to cram a whole host of huge set pieces, an impressive and charismatic cast (led by the enigmatic Robert Downey Jr.), and enough new footage (and brilliant lines) to make it well worth a look.
Directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), The Avengers brings many of Marvel’s most popular superheroes together in order to face-off against the biggest threat the world has ever faced; Loki (Tom Hiddleston, Thor); and consists of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson, Iron Man 2), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner, Thor), and in case you thought that wasn’t enough, and were panicking in case Loki’s army might just be able to defeat the troupe, the unflappable Tony Stark/Iron Man (Downey) puts it best when he explains “We have a Hulk [Mark Ruffalo, Shutter Island].”
Samuel L. Jackson will also be reprising his role as The Avengers’ mentor/leader Nick Fury, alongside the ever popular Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), when The Avengers is released on April 27th in the UK, and on May 4th in the US.
