Beetlejuice 2 Enters Development

A truly beloved comedy, and something of a cult classic, Tim Burton’s 1988 comedy Beetlejuice looks to be getting a sequel, nearly 25 years after its initial release; as Warner Bros. have recently hired Seth Grahame-Smith to script a second outing for the ‘ghost with the most.’

Smith has already proven he can tackle script work for darkly gothic tales, and Burton himself; as he’s recently completed script work on Burton’s upcoming Dark Shadows adaptation, and scripted the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter; and will be joined by producing partner David Katzenberg on the project; which aims to “reboot Beetlejuice by advancing the storyline of the original.”

As its still in the embryonic stages of development, there’s no telling exactly how any Beetlejuice sequel could play out (though a few years back Burton himself had devised the concept for a Hawaii based Beetlejuice movie which never saw the light of day), who’ll direct, or even who’ll star; but it’s highly likely that if Burton and star Michael Keaton (the Batman actor who played the titular reverse-exorcist) don’t return (particularly Keaton) fans of the original will undoubtedly be less than pleased.
