Beverly Hills Cop 4 gets directors

While it looked like Beverly Hills Cop would be going the route of so many once-hot properties and turning into a naff TV show (think Rush Hour, Lethal Weapon, Minority Report, and Limitless for only a small selection), it failed at the pilot stage and is back in the realms of big screen affair; with Black directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah recently accepting the job to helm a true Beverly Hills Cop 4.

Meaning, yes, Eddie Murphy is set to return as the quip-happy Axel Foley once again; as Murphy loved the duo’s Black so much (a film about a 15-year-old girl in a black gang choosing between loyalty to her gang, and love, when she falls for a Moroccan boy from a rival gang, which won the Discovery Award at last year’s Toronto Film Festival) he and producer Jerry Bruckheimer invited the pair to a meeting and decided to offer them the job.

Their spin, and the new script (by Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol‘s Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum) must’ve impressed Murphy too, as he told Rolling Stone last January “I’m not doing a Beverly Hills Cop unless they have a really incredible script… They’re trying to get it right. I’ve read a couple things that look like they can make some paper, but I’m not doing a shitty movie just to make some paper. The shit got to be right.”

So far there’s no official release date, but Beverly Hills Cop 4 is set to start filming either later this year, or early 2017.
