With the ethnicities of the two leads characters from the Antoine Fuqua film being switched around for the Training Day TV pilot, Bill Paxton (Aliens) has just been cast in a role similar to that played (especially memorably) by Denzel Washington in the big screen version.
Paxton will therefore be playing a morally questionable LAPD detective who’s tasked with bringing down the worst of the worst, and isn’t afraid to bend and/or break whatever rules are necessary to get the job done (and see that both he and his team are well taken care of in the process). He’ll also be mentoring a young and idealistic African-American (as yet unannounced actor) who joins his squad, and quickly begins to question his methods.
Antoine Fuqua was inline to direct the show’s pilot episode himself, though scheduling issues have now forced him to bow out. Danny Cannon (a TV veteran who’s launched a number of successful shows, including CSI) has stepped in to direct, and will be working from a script by Will Beall (scribe of the original film) when production begins.
