Too Hot to Handle actress Jayne Mansfield was adored by many onlookers, and heavily mourned when she tragically lost her life at the young age of only 34 (in 1967), in a devastating car crash; an event which has provided the title for Billy Bob Thornton’s (Faster) latest indie movie, Jayne Mansfield’s car.
Speaking recently Robert Duvall (The Godfather star who has recently been seen in Crazy Heart, The Road, and Get Low) confirmed that he has become attached to the film; which will not directly focus on Mansfield, but instead tell another “Southern tale” about “a guy in between World War One and World War Two, who raises a family after his wife left him for an Englishman and moves to England.”
Thornton has co-written the script (with The Gift’s Tom Epperson) that apparently “gets really interesting” 20 or 30 years after the wife leaves; when she dies, asks to be brought back to Alabama to be buried, and her original family, and English family meet, and inevitably clash.
As of yet there’s still no release date, or start date for Jayne Mansfield’s car, although it looks to be one to watch; with Billy Bob Thornton now confirmed to be not only starring in the film but also directing it, and Robert Duvall insisting “it’s brilliant.”
