Many fans are still up in arms about the announcement that a Blade Runner follow-up is even being considered (though some have been placated by the realization that original director Ridley Scott is at least returning to helm the feature), but that hasn’t stopped work progressing on the film; as it appears a writer may have now been found to script the movie.
Scott Z. Burns (known for writing The Bourne Ultimatum, and the upcoming Contagion) is reported to have been Scott’s “top choice” for a writer, and has now entered talks to script the as yet Untitled Blade RunnerProject; which is being produced by both Warner Bros. and Alcon.
So far it’s not know whether the new movie will be a sequel to the 1982 film (based on the Phillip K. Dick tale “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”), a prequel to it, a reboot/remake, or something inbewteen (as Scott’s upcoming Prometheus is to his Alien film), but whatever form it takes, it’s not likely to appear on screen before 2014.
