Bradley Cooper Adapting Hyperion

Fast becoming one of the hottest stars in Hollywood; since appearing in The Hangover, The A-Team, Limitless, and nowThe Hangover Part II; Bradley Cooper seems to be expanding his talents, and has written a spec script for Warner Bros. adapting Dan Simons’ sci-fi novels Hyperion.

The books are an extremely complex series of novels dealing with an intergalactic war; involving time travel, pilgrims, alternate viewpoints, and energy trees; and has been scheduled for a big screen adaptation for a number of years, but always seems to become stalled, and hasn’t had any movement for the past couple of years.

Producer Graham King (The Departed) picked up the rights back in 2008, before Tervor Sands (Finding Interest) narrowed the focus of the novels in his screenplay, and Scott Derrickson (The Day the Earth Stood Still) joined as a director in 2009; shortly before the project seemed faded away into the abyss.

With the time that’s passed it’s unclear if Derrickson is still attached; although there’s been no announcement to suggest he’s left; and as Cooper’s script has now found its way into the hands of the bosses at Warner Bros. the ball could soon start rolling again; though likely after Cooper’s stared in both Paradise Lost, and The Crow, as he’d probably be angling for a leading role in Hyperion.
