While the deal is likely still being finalised, Krysten Ritter (best known as Jesse’s girlfriend from Breaking Bad) looks set to star as Marvel Comics’ heroine Jessica Jones for an upcoming TV series set to appear exclusively on Netflix.
Set for a 13 episode first season, which is due to be scripted by Melissa Rosenberg (who, aside from working on Twilight, has also been involved with Dexter), Jessica Jones follows the exploits of a woman who turns her back on life as a superhero (since using her powers has landed her with a case of post-traumatic stress disorder), but decides to keep helping people by opening a detective agency catering for both everyday cases, and those involving superpowers.
Yet Jessica Jones isn’t the only Marvel character headed to Netflix, as Daredevil is already filming (with Charlie Cox picking up the role of the man without fear, and Vincent D’norfio appearing as his nemesis The Kingpin), Luke Cage will soon get his own series (likely appearing alongside Jones as an introduction), and the trio will all eventually join forces with Iron Fist to form a small-screen Avengers-like group known as The Defenders, for a planned miniseries.
