After releasing his seminal graphic novel; The Dark Knight Returns; Frank Miller wrote the landmark four-issue story Batman: Year One; a renowned comic-book tale that served as partial inspiration for Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, and will soon be adapted into an animated movie of the same name by DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Animation.
88 Minutes star Ben McKenzie will voice Bruce Wayne/Batman in the movie which traces the origins of the superhero known as Batman; from grief-stricken teenager to mask wearing vigilante; and is almost as much about Jim Gordon as it is about the multi-millionaire crime-fighter Bruce Wayne.
Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston was apparently “stunned” at the quality of the script, and has signed on to voice Lieutenant Gordon; despite initially turning down the role, as he “wasn’t aware of this level of storytelling in animation”; and will star alongside Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku; who will be voicing Batman’s infamous nemesis/love interest Catwoman.
Alex Rocco (The Godfather) and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) will be providing additional voice talent; as Carmine Falcone, and Gordon’s love interest, respectively; in the film that executive producer Bruce Timm states is “a pretty straight forward, literal retelling” of the comics, which is being directed by Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu, will use the comic for reference on “about 80 percent of the camera setups”, is due to premiere at Comic-Con this coming July, and will make its PG-13 home release this fall.
