X-Men Days Of Future Past PosterHe’s always been a hugely influential player in the X-Men franchise (even when not actually directing), and given the success of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and his love for the project, it should come as no surprise to learn that director Bryan Singer has now officially signed on to direct the upcoming X-Men movie X-Men: Apocalypse.

A returning Simon Kinberg will once again be scripting the film, and finding ways for our mutant heroes to head to a new decade (they’ll be in the ‘80s this time), and deal with an impending mutant apocalypse. Recently stating Apocalypse follows the stories of the First Class X-Men: Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, many others of that generation.”

Yet despite Days Of Future Past reviving a number of the mutant superheroes from the original X-Men trilogy it’s unlikely we’ll see them in Apocalypse, as Kinberg says “it would be very hard to do. We would have to recast them, because Apocalypse takes place a good twenty years before X1, which now insanely was fifteen years ago.” Though not ruling anything out, with an ambiguous “we’ll see”, and stating that “in future X-Men films? Perhaps.” Before quantifying how “Apocalypse will really be the continuation of the ‘past’ of Days Of Future Past.”

Scheduled to begin filming early next year, X-Men: Apocalypse is due to be released on May 19th 2016 in the UK, before making its official US release date on May 27th 2016. Though anyone who’s looking to relive Days of Future Past can do so by reading our review (linked below), and re-watching when the Blu-ray and DVD is released on October 14th in the US, and on November 10th in the UK (hopefully with added director’s cut).
