Mere days after the first official poster for Captain America: The First Avenger is released online (available to view here), Super Bowl Sunday hits in the U.S., and we’re treated to seeing the first ever footage of one of the year’s biggest superhero releases; courtesy of a short TV spot which can now be seen below.
Based on the Marvel Comics’ superhero of the same name, Captain America is set during World War II, and follows a sickly young man named Steve Rogers (Chris Evans, Scott Pilgrim) as he’s refused entry into the military on medical grounds, and then volunteers for a secret government experiment to become a Super Solider, and win the war against the Nazis.
Joe Johnston (Jumanji) has directed the movie, which also stars Men In Black’s Tommy Lee Jones; as a U.S. military Colonel; The Matrix’s Hugo Weaving; as a ruthless Nazi commander known as The Red Skull; and The Pillars of the Earth’s Hayley Atwell; as Steve’s love interest Peggy Carter.
Captain America: The First Avenger will be the second Marvel Studios superhero movie released this year; coming after Thor, which is being released on April 29th in the U.K., and May 6th in the U.S.; being released on July 22nd in the U.S., and July 29th in the U.K., but only the first movie to feature Chris Evans as Steve Rogers; as he’s due to make a large appearance in The Avengers next year.
