After making his debut on children’s TV in 1990, Captain Planet; the cartoon hero who’s ‘gonna take pollution down to zero’; has just been picked as the next potential superhero movie francshie, and will soon receive a film adaptation, courtesy of Cartoon Network, and Transformers’ producer Don Murphy.
The live action adaptation of the cartoon; which features a blue-skinned, green-haired, eco-friendly, hero who’s mission is to save the planet, doesn’t have an official release date, director, star, or even script, as of yet, although Stuart Snyder (President of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media division) believes that it could turn out to be very popular; as he feels “this team can bring the world’s first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent, but entertaining”, and all the more so as “the messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today” than they were back in 1990; but would kids really choose to see a film about a preachy recycling addict over the less eco-conscious Transformers movies, where giant robots smash each other to pieces.
