Making consumers work for their advertisements, the good people at Disney/Pixar didn’t simply turn up at WonderCon attempting to make a big splash for Cars 2 (unlike Warner Bros. did with The Green Lantern), but provided subtle clues which eventually led fans to some brand new footage, which can now be seen below.
Eagle-eyed WonderCon attendees would have spotted a parking a car with some Lightning McQueen decals and the Twitter handle @ChromeLeaks outside the Moscone Center over the weekend; which led fans onto Cars-N-Deals.com, where a further fake advertisement contained both a working phone number, and a hidden URL (chromeA113.com); directing people to a site containing the below clip, which features Finn McMissile attempting to outrun a number of other cars.
Directed by John Lasseter (Toy Story), Cars 2 will feature the voices of Owen Wilson (Marley and Me), Jason Isaacs (The Patriot), Michael Caine (Harry Brown), Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Emily Mortimer (Shutter Island), Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead), Cheech Marin (Machete), and of course Pixar’s lucky charm John Ratzenberger (Cheers), when it gets its 3D release on June 18th in the US, and makes its UK release date on July 22nd.
